In the Desert
I have been running around in the desert out here in the southwest. I have never been in the desert before, but it is absolutely incredible! I started in White Sands National Park in New Mexico, which was incredible! The sand was as white as snow and even sparkled the same way the snow in the northeast does. I saw people sledding down the sand dunes, which looked fun! I’ll have to remember to pack a sled next time. From there I went to Tucson, AZ and met a friend there, and stayed in Catalina State Park. The park is beautiful, and perfect for camping. I never knew how large Saguaro Cactuses could get! I saw some in Tucson that were larger than some houses! It’s fascinating how these plants and animals survive in such extreme conditions!
While I was hiking, I was able to see the charred devastation of the Bullhorn Wild Fire that took place in June of 2020. While I’m amazed how much has come back in a short period of time, there are trees that were badly burned, and you can see the charcoal in the sand.
From there, I got to see the Grand Canyon! WOW! Is all I have to say! The place is stunning! All the layers of rock are visible and creates a beautiful array of reds in the rocks! I also saw some Mule Deer, which I had never seen before! They are really neat!
